Ignore The Noise

The best piece of advice I ever got:

“Ignore the noise.”

I was in my early twenties, full of energy, working constantly, and trying hard to prove myself. I was busy, but not especially clear. And not as effective as I wanted to be.

I shared that with a mentor one day.

That was his advice.

That was it.

At first, I didn’t really understand what he meant. Over time, I realized how much of my attention was being crowded out by things that did not matter.

Newsletters.
Podcasts.
Social media.
The latest whatever.

I thought consuming more would give me an edge.

Eventually I learned that doing things gives you the edge. Creating more than consuming. Acting, reflecting, and learning along the way.

Since then, I’ve intentionally reduced the volume and increased the quality of what I let in.

The result is clarity.

Space for better ideas.

Energy to pursue them.
